Other uses for cartoons

If you ever took a course in economics, you know the visuals were terrible. Most of them were comprised of skinny little lines snaking their way across a chart that only a privileged few could understand.

Well, textbook publisher Glencoe, McGraw-Hill has apparently found another type of graphic illustration that anyone can understand: cartoons.

The Canyon Crest Academy is a school in the San Dieguito Union High School District in California. Apparently, they use economic textbooks published by Glencoe McGraw-Hill, which uses a supplement called “Economic Cartoons”.

This 39-page document is a teaching resource and uses editorial cartoons to illustrate various economic concepts. The authors added a number of questions after each cartoon designed to stimulate conversation and communicate
economic principles. The document is both entertaining and informative.

So, if you think cartoons are only good for a laugh, think again. Economics is too.

As a cartoonist and writer, I have a passion for the fine art of graphic humor. I believe it is an art form that does not get enough recognition. I hope to change that, if possible. Please let me know if you like these posts and my cartoons.
